NWS Holdings' Annual Report garners international awards

01.03.2004

(Hong Kong, 1 March 2004) NWS Holdings Limited’s (“NWS Holdings” or “the Group”; 659.HK) FY2003 annual report has recently won three awards at the Mercury Awards 2003 in New York. The Mercury Awards is considered the most highly respected and prestigious by industry peers. Among 900 entries from 13 countries, NWS Holdings’ annual report collected a gold award for Cover Design, a silver award for Overall Presentation and a bronze award for Interior Design.

Organized by MerComm, Inc., the Mercury Awards is a premier global competition judged by an impartial panel of judges made up of communication specialists from across the world, whose professionalism ensured the competition’s long-standing tradition of impartiality and integrity. In reviewing the entries, judges paid special attention to overall creativity, effective communication of corporate information as well as presentation and readability of financial information and written text.

Mr K L Chan, Chief Executive Officer of NWS Holdings, said, “As a responsible listed company, we recognize the annual report as an important communication channel with our stakeholders including investors, shareholders, customers and the public, regarding our corporate strategies, business development and financial information. We are proud to win the Mercury Awards and will continue to maintain a high level of transparency and good corporate governance.”

The winning publication, with a theme focusing on NWS Holdings’service and people, was the first annual report for the Group since its reorganization completed in January 2003. The report’s design concept, photo selection and content development were all tied to the Group’s corporate philosophy, and the financial information reporting reflected the Group’s commitment to the highest standards of transparency and corporate governance. Using “Service is Our Business” as the tagline on the cover, the report adopted the Group’s corporate colours -- red, orange and blue. Throughout the report, arrows were used to represent the Group’s determination to expand and excel, symbolizing that the three main business divisions of NWS Holdings -- service, infrastructure and ports -- shall continue to grow and progress.

To highlight NWS Holdings’ corporate culture, which emphasizes the value of people and commitment to community care, more than 100 staff members were present in the report to showcase the achievements of teamwork, the Group’s efforts in nurturing talent as well as its dedication to corporate volunteering. These were demonstrated in various sections including Strength in Unity, Human Capital and Corporate Citizenship. On the gatefold behind the cover, the Group’s vision, mission and core values were displayed, the Chinese translation of which was the result of a competition among all staff, reflecting NWS Holdings’ support on collective effort and teamwork.
