NWS Caring Day celebrates 15th Anniversary of Listing

(4 February 2018, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or “the Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) yesterday celebrated the 15th anniversary of its listing with NWS Caring Day 2018. The Group mobilised some 100 corporate volunteers to create a living art experience called “Living Art Museum” for over 200 elderly people to promote inter-generational communication. At the same time, the Group announced the launch of a new programme, “Count on You - Safe Home for Seniors”, in partnership with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited (“Welfare Council”). Occupational therapists, retired craftsmen and corporate volunteers are collaborating on the project, which aims to help the elderly with wheelchair maintenance and small-scale home modifications in order to enhance their quality of life.

Tsang Yam Pui, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee of NWS Holdings, said, ‘Since the listing of the Group in 2003, we have made solid progress to grow our business and have achieved fruitful results. In line with our caring culture we also actively giving back to society by providing supporting to the disadvantaged groups and promoting the spirit of volunteering. The theme of today’s event is “Inheritance”. All participants are of different ages and have different backgrounds. By sharing living art, we can exchange our life experience with each other.’

The “Count on You - Safe Home for Seniors” programme aims to provide support to elderly people in Wong Tai Sin district who lack financial and family support. Home safety assessments will be carried out by occupational therapists. Retired craftsmen with professional skills and corporate volunteers will help with home modifications and make rehab products for those who need them. The programme encourages retired craftsmen and corporate volunteers to maintain their traditional skills and help make elderly people’s homes safer and more comfortable. There will also be a series of workshops and activities to promote home safety and inter-generational interaction.

Joseph Man Hung Yee, Deputy Director of the Welfare Council, said, ‘We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with NWS Holdings on this innovative elderly service programme. It echoes with the government’s “aging in place as the core” policy, and makes good use of retirees to build community capital. This programme is a forward-looking project to enhance elderly people’s awareness of home safety and comfort, so that they can enjoy their twilight years comfortably at home and reduce the burden on community health care systems.’

To celebrate its 15th listing anniversary, the Group has also launched a series of employee engagement activities, including a video co-creation campaign for Hong Kong and Mainland China staff to express their wishes. Last Friday, a group-wide celebration party was also held. Video-conferencing links between all member companies enabled employees from different offices to celebrate together.
