(14 February 2009, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) designated 14 February 2009 as NWS Caring Day 2009 to celebrate the sixth anniversary of its First Trading Day. Over 400 staff members from the Group’s Corporate Office and 17 member companies carried out volunteer services instead of cocktail party to share the joy of the Group’s sixth anniversary.
The anniversary ceremony was held at New World Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui and was officiated by the Executive Directors Messrs Tsang Yam Pui, Andrew Wong, Patrick Lam, Tommy Cheung and William Doo, Jr., and Non-Executive Director, Mr Dominic Lai of NWS Holdings. The Group’s directors implanted nutrition into a pot and six sunflowers, which were acted by children, grew up gradually to symbolize the Group’s prosperity and its commitment in environmental protection and conservation.
At the ceremony, Mr Tsang Yam Pui, Executive Director and Chairman of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee expressed the Group was proud to receive “Total Caring Award” from the Hong Kong Council of Social Services recently and thanked for the enthusiastic contribution from staff members which made NWS Caring Day 2009 more meaningful. He pledged to continue adopting CSR principles in spite of the economic downturn, “To adopt CSR policies is not just promoting in newspapers or carrying out volunteer services. We must do it sincerely so that CSR will become the Group’s corporate culture. No matter in good times or bad times, we shall continue to pursue CSR in the Group.”
The Charity Sale started right after the ceremony in which the Group’s Corporate Office and its member companies set up booths at New World Centre to sell items collected from staff members. There were nearly 10,000 items collected including those from New World Development Company Limited and other member companies where public could purchase good quality products at bargain prices. All sales proceeds were donated to Hans Andersen Club (HAC) for providing support for children and young people. Also, over 400 members from NWS Volunteer Alliance taught some 100 underprivileged children from HAC to make origami flowers out of recycled red packets and “fai chun” and create stories to spread the caring and environmental protection messages to their families and friends on this special Valentine’s Day.
