NWS Holdings garnered Hong Kong Volunteer Award (Corporate Award)

(6 November 2009, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) received the Third Hong Kong Volunteer Award (Corporate Award) granted by the Agency for Volunteer Service at the Third Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony on 6 November 2009, marking a successful chapter to our ongoing efforts in volunteer works.

Mr Patrick Lam, Executive Director of NWS Holdings, said the Group is honoured to be the only corporation receiving the Hong Kong Volunteer Award and thanked Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (“YWCA”) for the nomination. NWS Holdings is committed to upholding corporate social responsibility and has never forgotten to care for the community while striving for business development. Founded in 2001, the corporate volunteer team, NWS Volunteer Alliance, will continue to participate in community works based on the vision of “serving the society with what we know, what we have and what our heart has told us”.

The Hong Kong Volunteer Award is a territory-wide volunteer nomination event and is now into its third year. The Corporate Award is a newly added division for this year, aiming to promote corporate volunteerism. The judging panel includes Mr Vincent Cheng, Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited; Ms Christine Fang, Chief Executive of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service; and Mr Anthony Wu, Chairman of Hospital Authority Board.

NWS Holdings always encourages staff to participate in volunteer services. The NWS Volunteer Alliance has now built a strong team of 1,800 volunteers including staff and their family members alike and its total accumulated service hours exceed 58,000. Apart from running ongoing services for the elderly, rehabilitating psychiatric patients and the mentally-handicapped, the Group has launched a Life Rejuvenation Scheme which runs in conjunction with a local organization each year for volunteers to develop trusting relationships with beneficiaries. In the Fairy Mentorship programme in partnership with the Hans Andersen Club, our volunteers perform community services with kids on a one-to-one level. Last year, volunteers utilized their professional skills to help the elderly who were affected by the Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate being demolished to conduct improvement works in their new homes.

In view of the social needs at economic downturn, the Group donated bathroom amenities and rain gear items to the underprivileged students of Fresh Fish Traders’ School. Recently, the Group has launched the NWS Volunteer Alliance Award Programme, to honour our staff’s dedication to volunteering services in our own way.
