NWS Holdings joint venture wins 30-year contract to provide industrial water services to Wuhan Chemical Industry Park

(11 May 2012, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) through its joint venture Sino French Water Development Company Limited (“Sino French Water”) signed a 30-year contract to provide water treatment services to Wuhan Chemical Industry Park (“WCIP”) on 7 May. Combined with previous agreements, Sino French Water becomes the exclusive provider of integrated water and wastewater services to clients in WCIP.


Sino French Water, which has been active in the China water industry since 1992, is a partnership between NWS Holdings and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT. Following its increased cooperation with WCIP, the partnership has now been renamed Wuhan Sino French Water Company Limited (“Wuhan Sino French”). NWS Holdings has an effective interest of 21.5% in the renamed company.


Under the contract, Wuhan Sino French will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of up to 300,000m3 /day of water treatment facilities, along with other corresponding infrastructure and services for WCIP’s industrial and residential clients. Construction of phase one of the project will begin immediately and represents an investment of RMB240 million by Wuhan Sino French.


Through joint venture company Sino-French Holdings (Hong Kong) Limited, NWS Holdings invests in 24 water treatment projects, a sludge treatment plant and two operation and management consulting companies in Mainland China and Macau. They can treat up to 6.93 million cubic metres of water and waste water and 540 tonnes of sludge per day. The Group also invests in a hazardous chemical waste incineration plant in Shanghai with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes and holds stake in a 61-hectare landfill in Hong Kong and two strategic investments in Chongqing

Wuhan Chemical Industry Park

WCIP lies on the Yangtze River. Upon completion, WCIP will span an area of 76km2 . WCIP deals with raw, petrochemical materials and supplies completed petrochemical products throughout central China. The 800,000 tonnes/year ethylene project and ancillary works were approved. Upon its completion, total investment in WCIP will exceed RMB70 billion.
