NWS Donates 10,000 Oximeters to Help Combat COVID-19

21.02.2022

(21 February 2022, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS” or the “Group”; HK stock code:659) announces today that it will donate 10,000 medical-grade oximeters through NWS Holdings Charities Foundation Limited, adhering to the New World Group’s spirit of Creating Shared Value (“CSV”) amidst the combat of the recent wave of COVID-19. The devices will assist people who are preliminary positive with COVID-19 in monitoring their physical health conditions at home, helping them gauge when they need to seek medical help. Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (“Gleneagles”), a member of NWS, will also be launching free virtual medical consultation service shortly. The combined efforts of the two initiatives aim to mitigate the recent burden on public hospitals.

Adrian Cheng, CEO of New World Development, the parent company of NWS, said, “Our group has always been responsive in terms of our anti-pandemic efforts. When the pandemic evolves, our community initiatives evolve with it. One of such examples includes our donation of 200,000 sets of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits to the underprivileged starting from this week. FTLife Insurance, a subsidiary of NWS, also offers free COVID-19 related protection to designated pandemic-control fleet drivers. We understand the uneasiness preliminary confirmed COVID-19 patients must have been experiencing when they cannot be hospitalized. With this round of donation and free virtual consultation service, we hope to provide the public with timely anti-pandemic assistance and care.”

The Group will work with the lawmakers of geographical constituencies and a number of NGOs, leveraging their networks to distribute the devices to individuals and families in early March, enabling self-quarantined or home patients to monitor their physical conditions. Dr. Karen Chan, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Gleneagles, said, "Generally, an oxygen saturation level (SpO2) of 95% or above is considered normal for both adults and children. People with a SpO2 of lower than 95% should seek medical attention immediately."

In addition, Gleneagles will roll out free virtual consultation service shortly, allowing people in need to receive timely and professional medical service at home. The virtual consultation service will be available for members of the public during designated periods. Further details on the service will be announced in due course.
